Wethersfield
Alan R. Birmingham, 68, of Wethersfield, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Dudley and Ruth (Miller) Birmingham. He was a former resident of Colchester, where he lived with his family for many years. Prior to his retirement, Alan ran the Birmingham Agency (Allstate Insurance Co.) in Wethersfield and had a successful local restaurant, Birmingham's Restaurant and Bakery, years previous. He was a proud graduate of Waynesburg College and member of the Zeta-Epsilon Chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. In addition, Alan was a committed public servant. This can be seen through his work on the Wethersfield town council, his many years of service as a volunteer fire department member in not only Wethersfield but also Colchester, CT and Waynesburg, PA, his 54 years of membership and commitment to volunteering at First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, his years of baseball and softball coaching, and in the many other ways he gave back to his community and to his friends and family.
Alan is survived by his four children: Candice Birmingham, Theresa Birmingham, Erica Carew and her husband Joshua Carew all of Rocky Hill; Alan "AJ" Robert Birmingham, Jr. and his wife Dr. Lauren Birmingham, DPT of Wethersfield; and his three grandchildren, Mark, Maddox, and Memphis Carew, all of Rocky Hill. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cynthia Birmingham of Broadbrook; his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dr. Raymond Kurker of South Windsor; his former wife and long-time friend, Andrea Beaty; and his many nieces and nephews, as well as cherished and long-standing friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021, 11:00 am at The First Church of Christ, Wethersfield, 250 Main St. Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield.
