Obituary

Angel Luis Mercado, 64, of Manchester, CT beloved husband of Nelba (Vasquez) Mercado passed away, Sunday, September 20, 2026. Angel was born on Wednesday, December 13, 1961, in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, to the late Ramon Mercado and Ana Mercado. Alongside his parents and siblings, he grew up in a small house his father built—a home Angel helped expand as the years passed. Among the memories he most loved to share were those of spending time with his father and brothers, picking fruit from the trees, fishing, playing his guitar, and making music with his cousins.

In 1976, Angel began dating Nelba Iris Vazquez, whom he met at their church, Templo Fe, in Hartford, Connecticut. They married there on August 8, 1981, and welcomed their first son, Josué, in 1983, followed by their second son, Eliezer, in 1984.

Templo Fe remained an important part of Angel's life for many years before he went on to serve as the beloved co-pastor of Iglesia Fuente de Salvacion Misionera Inc. Throughout his years of ministry, he served the Lord as a teacher, preacher, mentor, counselor, and friend. To his family, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son. His life and ministry touched people around the world, reaching as far as Israel. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the people he guided, and the lives he helped shape.

Angel was preceded in death by his father, Ramon Mercado, and his younger brother, Ramon Mercado Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Nelba Mercado; his son, Josué Mercado, and daughter-in-law, Hailee, and their children, Jasilyn, Gabriel, Wyatt, and Faith; and his son, Eliezer Mercado, and daughter-in-law, Mileidy, their son, Lorenzo, and Eliezer's child, Cheimish.

He is also survived by his mother, Ana Mercado; his siblings, Mercedes Mercado, Hector Mercado, Carmen Mercado, Maria Mercado, Ana Rosa Mercado, Rafael Mercado, Juan Carlos Mercado, and Jose Mercado; and his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Miguel Vazquez, Sonia Vazquez, and Lucy Vazquez.

He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with countless members of his church community who knew and loved him as a brother, a father, an uncle, and a friend. The many ways they called him family reflect the depth of his impact and the love he shared.

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."  1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NIV
