Anna T.
Kapalczynski
Jan 6, 1936 — Aug 14, 2024
Hartford
Anna Zytkowicz Kapalczynski 1936 - 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Teresa Kapalczynski, in Hartford, Connecticut. She peacefully died in her sleep on the morning of August 14, 2024, the Feast Day of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and the eve of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to whom she had a special devotion.
Beloved and cherished wife of Jerzy Kapalczynski, an intensely loving and devoted mother to Ignacy (Janina), Marcin, Jolanta (Harold) Krach and Lidia (Jonathan) Easterbrook. A nurturing Grandmother to Konrad Kross and Renata Krach, Babcia to Mikolaj (Kelsey), Wieslaw (Katerina) and Krystyna and Pra-Babcia to Logan Kapalczynski. Lovingly remembered by her sisters Maria Wisniowski and Kinga Snell, four nieces and four nephews, cousins and friends in Poland and around the world.
Anna's life journey began on January 6, 1936, in Warsaw, Poland, daughter of Wladyslaw and Stanislawa (Chrupczalowski) Zytkowicz. A happy early childhood was upended by World War II, being burned out of her home, driven from her homeland, and her family's escape from communism via Italy and Austria. Those traumatic memories were never far from her thoughts.
Her family eventually made their way to London, England and started anew. Anna was a business student at the Regents Polytechnic where she met Jurek, her future husband, to whom she was married for over 50 years.
In 1956, they sailed to America, and settled in Hartford, Connecticut. Together with her family, they bought their first and only home, in which Anna lived her life. Anna found her calling and life's contentment in raising her children. She enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a prolific letter writer, keeping in touch with her family in Poland.
