Bruce P.
Wallace
Dec 14, 1932 — Jun 26, 2021
Wethersfield
Bruce P. Wallace, 88, of Wethersfield died on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Bruce was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on December 14, 1932, to James A. S. Wallace and Aurelia B. Wallace. He resided in Hartford for several years before moving to Wethersfield with his family, where he resided for the rest of his life. He attended Wethersfield public schools and was a 1956 graduate of the University of Connecticut. Bruce was also a 1968 graduate of Northwestern University's National Trust School program.
Shortly after receiving his undergraduate degree Bruce began a career in the insurance and banking industries. He joined Riverside Trust Company in 1957 and remained with the company and its successors, including United Bank and Trust Company, for over 32 years. He retired from Fleet Bank in 1993 as a Senior Vice President and Fiduciary Officer. Over the course of his career Bruce shared his knowledge of the personal and professional side of banking through participation as a teacher and curriculum developer in programs including the American Institute of Banking, the Massachusetts Banking School at Williams College, and the Hartford Estate and Business Planning Council.
Bruce grew up attending South Congregational Church in Hartford. A life-long member, he served the church as Deacon, Treasurer, Moderator, and Chair of both the Business Committee and the 2nd Ecclesiastical Society. Through a church affiliation, Bruce volunteered his time as a member of the board of directors and assistant treasurer at the Avery Heights community in Hartford. By far the most important moment of Bruce's involvement with the church was meeting his future wife, Janet Horton, in Sunday School, whom he wed in 1956.
While raising their family, Janet and Bruce enjoyed traveling around the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and their beloved Bermuda, a place they treasured for its natural beauty and the many personal friendships and longstanding organizational connections they formed there over the course of nearly forty visits. In addition to traveling, Bruce was an avid cyclist and cross-country skier. He also enjoyed memberships in organizations and clubs including Bermuda National Trust, Bermuda Maritime Museum, and National Trust for Scotland. In Wethersfield, Bruce served on the Board of Selectmen and was an elected member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Janet, Bruce's beloved wife of 64 years, died this past September. He was predeceased by his brother Craig and sister Priscilla. Bruce is survived by son Brian Wallace and his partner Shari Osborn, daughter Sandra Amoroso and her husband Brian Amoroso, and his two grandchildren, Helen Spencer-Wallace and Jillian Amoroso. He is also survived by his sister Drusilla Wallace. The family would like to acknowledge Bruce's caregiver, Ruth Brown, who provided care and friendship over the past several months.
