Obituary

Carlos Susaya Villegas, son of Luisa Villegas Gutierrez and Santiago Susaya Cabezas passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters on Sunday December 20, 2020.

Carlos was born on January 18, 1957 in Ocobamba, Peru. There, he enjoyed his childhood and adolescence, and met his high school sweetheart Hilda Susaya. They started their journey in 1977 welcoming their first daughter Maria en Huancayo where he worked as a coffee harvester. They married in 1978 back in their hometown and had their second daughter Yuly in 1980. Carlos would make the difficult decision to leave in 1980 to the United States to forge a brighter future for his family. He would bring his family to the United States in 1983, and would welcome their baby Daisy in 1984.

From the time of his arrival to the Unites States, Carlos first worked in construction in his brother's company, Susaya Construction. In 1986, with the encouragement of his wife Hilda, and support of his brother Rogelio, he started his own company, M.J.D Construction Co., Inc. The company is 34 years old. He was never one to sit back, always the hard laborer. He was proud of the company he built, and even prouder that he and his wife were able to see their dreams come true as they enjoyed the fruits of their labor by traveling, buying their home, and affording their daughter's education.

Carlos was a hard worker, but beyond that he was a husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He will be most remembered for being charitable, forgiving, humble, hilarious, faithful and the godfather to more than 30 godchildren in the States and Peru. He was also a patron of el Niño Jesus and La Virgen de Candelaria and was mayordomo of many cargos in Peru, in honor of his family.

In his prime, he was a talented soccer player often scouted by numerous clubs in Peru, and played for Club Bolognese in Hartford. He loved all sports and the arts, specially soccer and American football. He loved to draw, paint, and listen to his Huayno and Cumbia music. He was unknowingly competitive, coming from out of no where and winning events. He even took home first place in a local Sapo tournament in Hartford. Carlos was quiet, reserved but he was always present at family celebrations, and added enjoyment by providing off the cuff chistes , and sharing food and chelas . He could always be counted on for his huge smile and infectious laughter.

Carlos is survived by his wife Hilda Susaya, His daughters: Maria, Yuly, and Daisy Susaya. His sons-in-law: Greg Hains, Phillip Lopez, and Brayan Rubio. His four adoring granddaughters who lovingly referred to him as "Abo": Teresa Lopez, Elisa Lopez, Brielle Hains, and Bryn Hains. His furry four-legged companion Jazzy whom he affectionately called " mamas ". His seven siblings: Rogelio Susaya, Alejandrina Susaya, Teofila Susaya, Maximina Walczyk, Fortunata Barzola, Julio Susaya, and Elias Susaya. Many in-laws, nieces, nephews, ahijados, su madrina Eudosia Castro Sarmiento, hermanos y hermanas en Cristo .

Carlos' legacy will live on through his wife of 42 years, and his daughters and grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally.
