RAMOS, Carmen (Alma)
Mrs. Carmen (Alma) Ramos, 92, of Wethersfield died in the Ellis Manor Nursing Home in Hartford, CT, where she was attended to by a very caring staff. Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Carmen was the daughter of the late Guillermo and Epifania Alma. Her husband, Jose (Joe) Ramos to whom she had been married to for over 55 years predeceased her. Carmen predeceased six sisters and three brothers and is survived by her sister, Blanca Iris Alma. She is also survived by her daughter, Lillian Lopez and her fiancé, Edward Daly; her loving niece, Carmen Cotto, and Gary Lopez whom she referred to as her son. Carmen was blessed with a long and healthy life that was surrounded by caring people and a family that loved her very much. Carmen came to the United States in her 20's where she met her husband Jose. After their courtship, they married on New Years Day, 1951 in New York City. Carmen and Jose lived in New York and Michigan before making the Hartford area their home. Carmen was a long time seamstress and was later employed at Carling Electric. She worked very hard, going to work every day to preserve her home and to give her family the things it needed. She enjoyed being part of the developing Spanish community in Hartford. The hallmark of Carmen's personality was that she was such a loving and caring person. She was a mother with a capital "M". Her love for her daughter Lillian was figural in her life. Although Carmen's family was separated by distance, she kept in close touch with her relatives in New York, Florida and Puerto Rico. She adored her sisters and when they got together it was always an occasion to be remembered. After her and her husband's retirement they moved to a new home in Wethersfield where they spent many peaceful days. Carmen's loving and caring nature was exercised everyday by making daily visits to her husband in the Elm Hill Nursing Home. She brought Joe Spanish coffee just the way he liked it. Carmen was a quiet and reserved mother who had a fierce loyalty to people she loved. We love her, we pray for her and we miss her.
