Dennis J. Gainey passed in peace Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the age of 82. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joy, and siblings Gary and Jackie. Dennis was born August 18, 1935 in Burlington, Vermont the son of the late Darious and Thelma Smith Gainey. He grew up on Maple Ave in Hartford, CT and attended St. Peter's School. He had been a member of the St. Peter's Boys Brigade, and also a member of the St. Peter's CYO. He created a life with Joy and their son Scott in West Hartford, CT; he coached several youth teams, including football and baseball, meticulously maintained his lawn and gardens, and always showed support at his son's athletic events. Dennis retired from working for the Town of West Hartford after 34 years of hardworking, dedicated service. He happily retired in Florida with Joy where he made more wonderful friends, perfected his golfing skills, and placed many bets at the horse track. He adored spending time with his friends and family, always making them laugh with his witty humor. Dennis not only leaves behind his son Scott and his wife Betsey, but his cherished grandchildren Paige, Bradan, and Brett. He also leaves behind his loving childhood friend David Boya, and his sister Maureen Gainey. The Gainey family expresses their appreciation to St. Mary's Home in West Hartford for their compassion and care.
