Obituary

DAGATA, Dorothy Mary (Mack) Dorothy Mary (Mack) Dagata, 94, of Rocky Hill died peacefully on Thursday October 7, 2010. She was the loving wife of Thomas D. Dagata, who predeceased her in 1996. Dot was born April 2, 1916 in Hartford the eighth of ten children of Crohan and Mary (McCarthy) Mack. She attended Hartford public schools and was an honors graduate of Hartford Public High School Class of 1934B. Dot worked at the Aetna Insurance Co. starting in the steno pool and becoming secretary to a vice president. During WWII she was introduced to Thomas Dagata from New Britain by a mutual friend and they married on November 9, 1946 and moved to Rocky Hill in 1951. Dot was a quiet person who enjoyed reading and listening to classical music and opera. She was a good cook and hosted many holiday celebrations and family parties at her home. She was a devoted communicant of St. James Church, a member of the St. James Women's Club and the Democrat Women's Club. Family and her faith meant the most to her and she was happiest surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She found great comfort in her strong Catholic faith praying the rosary several times a day. Dorothy was a kind and gentle person who thought of others before herself. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend. She is survived by her daughters Margot (Dagata) Chapman and husband Wayne of Portland, Rosemary (Dagata) Parent and husband Glenn of Rocky Hill and son Thomas Mack Dagata of Waterford, her grandchildren Rebecca Parent, Monique (Parent) and Jeff Lafave, Stephen Parent and fiancée Meghan Zabel, Kelsey and Nileen Dagata and great grandchildren Gabrielle and Jase Lafave, her devoted friends Josephine Smietana and Rose Frascarelli and many dear nieces and nephews.
