Edward Christopher Allaben
Born in New Britain, CT
Resided in Newington, CT
March 6, 1990 - July 10, 2019
Edward C. Allaben left this world on Wednesday July 10 th, 2019, after just 29 short years of life. He was a very cherished and loved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Edward had so many talents and passions. He was a very hard working and skilled Master Barber who brought artistry to the craft and humor and soulfulness to the people he worked with, as well as to all of those who got a cut, color and/or shave in his chair. Cove's Barber Shop in Glastonbury, CT quickly became one of Edward's favorite places to be because he was allowed to truly shine, do the work that he felt was more of a calling than a profession and connect with his clients and coworkers. Ryan Cove, barber and shop owner and fellow barber Steve Roberts quickly became more like Ed's family rather than just friends to him.
This is not to be taken lightly because Eddie was very good to his family and made them feel very loved. He understood from a young age that it was love and connection that were the most important parts of life. He would drop everything to help a family member, was a compassionate and patient listener and was able to provide advice with wisdom well beyond his years. His cousin and best friend Daniel Layne remembers spending many hours with him in nature at places like the Wethersfield Cove and Rocky Hill Quarry where he made it known that his favorite moments were those filled with laughter and good conversations. Edward's father, Paul Allaben will miss most his beaming smile. His sister, Alyssa Allaben most appreciated his sense of humor and ability to keenly assess the heart of any situation with both wit and benevolence. His brother, Alexander Allaben remembers discovering the true meaning of teamwork with Eddie while sharing single-player computer games where one of them would control the mouse and the other the keyboard. Edward's mother, Adrienne Allaben remembers the joyous and sweet times of his childhood and beyond and his bond to his brother, sister and his parents.
Edward was born with an artistic eye. He loved to draw, paint, take photographs and was able to translate the beauty, sadness and depth of life he saw through these pieces. Edward was also naturally gifted athletically and sports and fitness were a big part of his being. As a child he could rollerblade when he was barely able to walk. As a pre-teen he was doing tricks on ramps and up and down stairs on his skateboard. In high school he was a competitive swimmer and as a late teen and adult he was a body builder and duckpin bowler. This active lifestyle balanced his love of food and cooking. He was an ice cream connoisseur, had never met a breakfast dish he didn't like and enjoyed a good cup of coffee, among other things.
While Eddie loved many things about life, he was unfortunately, not without his demons. He fought valiantly against them for many years. No matter his struggles Edward always succeeded in meeting his obligations, whether it was to work or to an appointment. Edward understood pain in a way most of us will never know. He was an animal lover, so it was fitting that when he went to the Humane Society to adopt a cat, the one he came home with was one that hadn't wanted anyone to touch her, until she met Ed. He had said that she had chosen him. That was the kind of energy and vibration Edward's spirit emanated; he was a safe space for all who needed him. Perhaps his pain made him not lesser of, but more of an evolved soul, which resulted in an abbreviated lifespan. For the following family members and also for all of the friends and acquaintances not listed, for us, the world was a much better place with him in it.
