Obituary

Esteban Segarra Gonzalez, 85, of Hartford, CT, beloved husband of the late Gloria (Perez) Gonzalez, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, with his family by his side, at Hartford Hospital.

Esteban was born on January 28, 1939 in Juncos, PR and was the son of the late Eusebio Gonzalez and Carmen Segarra. After growing up in PR, he moved to CT, where he started his family and his career. He enjoyed good food, which led him to open a restaurant where he could share the savory tastes of the foods from his island. Later, he changed careers to work construction until he retired. He was proud that he took part in building many structures and interstates in CT.

Esteban was a happy man who was always smiling and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a hard-working man, who sacrificed for his family and helped anyone in need. He loved cooking for family parties and gatherings and would often cook extra food to share with friends and neighbors.  He would even feed the neighborhood cats.

Esteban loved baseball. In his younger years, he became known as "El Caballo" for his play as a center fielder.  His passion for the game led him to become a coach in the local kids leagues, receiving coaching awards for leading his team to win multiple championships. He was not only a coach, but a friend and mentor to many, providing adequate guidance to aspire in life. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan to the very end.

Esteban is survived by his sons Esteban Jr. and wife Maria (Segarra) Gonzalez, Luis and wife Sonia Gonzalez; daughters Maria Gonzalez, Lisset and husband Norberto Lopez; his adored grandchildren Janellee, William Jr, Nathaniel, Marquis and Julien; great grandchildren Noah, Aliana and Jaylene.
