Harry J.
Kutsukos
Oct 23, 1933 — Sep 24, 2021
Harry John Kutsukos of Pompano Beach FL, formerly of Glastonbury, CT passed away in his sleep on September 24, 2021. Harry (Haralambos) was born in Platanos Aigialeias, Greece on October 24, 1933 to the late John and Anastasia (Siatou) Koutsoukos. Just after WWII, he left home and moved to Athens at the tender age of 13 in search of work to help support the family. There, he continued his education and eventually joined the Hellenic Merchant Marines. Through hard work and dedication, Harry arrived in the United States where he met the love of his life, Zaharena "Lou" Dikegoros. In 1959, the couple married and settled in East Hartford, CT where they raised their two children, Anne and John. For most of his career, Harry was in the linen business, employed by both American Linen and Crown Linen.
Throughout the years, Harry sponsored many relatives and friends who also emigrated from Greece, offering many employment opportunities. He also owned several apartment buildings in the East Hartford area including condominiums in Pompano Beach Florida where he eventually retired. Before retiring, Harry was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its community, and, later, a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Harry was very proud of his Greek heritage but also loved being an American citizen. He lived his life and worked hard to support his family. Besides spending time with his immediate and extended families, Harry enjoyed gardening, traveling, going to the beach and had a great passion for cooking. Harry was known to his neighbors and friends as a kind and generous man who loved sharing his food creations. Several times a week, he would come knocking on their doors with plates of his famous Greek food and desserts. It made him so happy to give to others. He was a devoted husband of 55 years, a wonderful provider to his children, and an adoring "Papou" to his four grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his loving son John Harry Kutsukos and his wife Lori of South Glastonbury, CT; a son-in-law Nick Karas of Glastonbury; grandchildren John Karas, Kristina Kutsukos, Peter Karas and Jack Kutsukos; brothers Andreas, George, and Nick Koutsoukos, all of Greece; sisters Hariklia Spiridis of MD, Penelope Panagopoulou and Eirine Kutsoukou of Greece and many adored cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lou Kutsukos, their loving daughter Anne Kutsukos Karas, and a brother Athanasios. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, with the Rev. Dr. George Zugravu officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Visiting hours will be Friday at St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1 hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 am.
