Hilario "Goyo"
Goyzueta
Oct 21, 1928 — Aug 20, 2025
Newington
On August 20, 2025, our beloved father and grandfather Hilario "Goyo" Goyzueta passed peacefully in his sleep. Don Goyo was born and raised in Arequipa, Peru in a large family with many siblings. From a young age, he embodied the values of hard work, generosity, and devotion to others—qualities that would go on to define his life.
In Peru, he built a career as a manager at a major transportation company while remaining deeply committed to his family. In Lima, he met and married his lifetime sweetheart, Dorila, and together the five children they created became his world. In 1990, he immigrated with his family to the United States, where he worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for them. Through it all, he remained steadfast in his faith, grounding his life in prayer and a profound love of attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion.
Don Goyo was a man of humor and heart. A natural jokester and lover of riddles, he brought laughter to all who knew him. He was the heart of his family, never missing a birthday or holiday. With his wife, he created a home filled with music and joy. He loved Peruvian music, from pan pipes to valses criollos to spirited marineras, and boleros. He also delighted in tending his garden, caring for his lovebirds and canaries, and, most of all, in seeing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gathered around the table.
A generous and selfless man, Don Goyo gave freely of his time and resources. He was always ready to help relatives, friends, and neighbors—the one everyone could count on for rides, errands, or encouragement. He loved treating his family to seaside meals of ceviche and pescado frito after long days at the beach and never returned from Peru without gifts (alpaca ponchos, toys, or sweets, especially Turrón de Doña Pepa) for his grandchildren, who adored him.
Don Goyo was loved not only by his family but also by his community. Wherever he went, someone would stop to greet him, a testament to the friendships he nurtured throughout his life. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the way he lifted the spirits of everybody around him. Above all, he was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, encouraging their studies, careers, music, sports, and passions with unwavering support, never missing a graduation.
Most profoundly, he will be remembered for his devotion to his wife of sixty years and the love of his life, Dorila. In her final years, he lovingly cared for her, preparing meals, providing medications, and tending to her daily needs. He is now reunited with his beloved wife in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and devotion to God.
Funeral services and burial will be private. A private visitation will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 2pm to 5pm. Funeral service will also be private on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 12pm. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 79 New Park Ave., Hartford, CT 06106
