Obituary

On 09/24/2016, our beloved Hrisafina Mariettos, 65, "Nina" passed away peacefully in the arms of her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Nicholas "Nick" Mariettos of South Windsor, CT, and her daughter Eleni Mariettos, also of South Windsor, whom she loved so very much; a sister Sevasti Lambros of East Hartford, sister and brother-in-law Despina and Savvas Petrides of East Hartford, brother and sister-in-law John and Irene Mariettos of Belchertown, Ma, and a sister-in law-Maria Karanikis of South Windsor. Nina, was predeceased by her parents Nikitas & Barbara Karanikis, a sister Elena Karanikis, and a brother George Karanikis. She also leaves behind the many godchildren, nieces and nephews of whom she adored; and the many dear friends who were just as special to her as her family members. Nina immigrated from Rhodes, Greece at 13 years old with her mother and sister. After marrying her childhood love, they created a beautiful life for their family. Despite the many challenges she endured with her illness throughout her life, Nina worked, for over 30 years, side by side with her husband and their sister-in-law and brother-in-law at the former Apollo Pizza Restuarant, and the Grapevine Grille in Belchertown, MA. She treated her customers like family and was proud to be part of a loving community. Additionally, she was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford, where she was known as the little lady that ran the "ouzeri" for the annual church festival. Her friends and family will have fond memories of Nina including her love for gardening, preparing creative meals and taking care of her loved ones in the many ways she knew how...delicious food, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on and an ear to bend. Nina was truly one of a kind and will forever be in our hearts. May her memory be eternal. The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 29, 11:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, 06114 with the Rev. Dr. George Zugravu officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Friends may call Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT, with the Trysayion service at 7:00.
