Irene Petkaitis, 93, of West Hartford, CT, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. Irene was born and raised in Hartford and was the daughter of the late Petras and Anna (Motejunas) Yankauskas.

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 63 years George (Jurgis) Petkaitis, sisters Dorothy Krancunas and Theresa Cameron, and brother Raymond Yankauskas. She leaves behind her children Peter, Tomas and Dana Petkaitis, daughter in law Ruth Petkaitis, grandsons Tomas, Miles, Gabriel and Benjamin Petkaitis, and sister Elizabeth Yankauskas. She also leaves behind several cousins, nieces and nephews both in the United States and in Lithuania.

Irene worked for the Hartford Fire Department and later for the American Heart Association. She and her husband George were very actively involved as members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Lithuanian-American community in Connecticut. They were both recipients of the Saint Joseph Medal awarded by the Hartford Archdiocese in 2009 for their lifetimes of involvement and commitment to Holy Trinity and the diocese. Irene was a kind and generous soul, a loving mother, and was loved by all who knew her.

Funeral mass will begin at 9:30 a.m on Saturday, March 16 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 53 Capitol Ave in Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
