She was born October 30, 1927, to John and Marie German of West Hartford, CT. After graduation from Hall High School, she studied art at Pratt Institute in New York. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Welling, noted Hartford artist, and raised their family in Avon, CT. She used her artistic talent to design and paint furniture and create murals and collages for their home. After their divorce, she married Leo Stoll, owner of Stoll Packing Company, Hunts Point, NY, and lived for many years in Hartsdale, NY. She and her second husband were active members of the Coveleigh Club of Rye, NY and traveled extensively, visiting Europe, South America and Africa on safari. Irene was predeceased by both husbands and her son, Richard Dixon Welling. She is survived by her brother, George German of Colorado Springs, CO, and her loving family, daughters (and their husbands), Debrah Welling and Jack Intrator, Wendy and Horst Gerjets, and Lisa and David Riss; daughter-in-law, Maria Welling; grandchildren, Erik and Daniel Gerjets, Richard Daniel Welling, and Skye, Remy and Graham Riss; great-granddaughters, Megan and Grace Gerjets, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be remembered as a loving and generous mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, and will be truly missed and remembered in our hearts. During her life she contributed to many organizations, believing in sharing what she had with others in need. In her later years, her son-in-law Jack Intrator became her dear friend and trusted advisor. They shared a love and admiration for each other and were truly kindred spirits.
