Rocky Hill

Obituary

Jorge J. "George" Oporto, 88, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband of the late Consuelo (Aguilar) Oporto, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at home closely surrounded by his family.  He was born in La Plata, Argentina, son of the late Pedro Antonio and Luisa (Romero) Oporto.   He lived in Rocky Hill for over 20 years with his daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren.  Prior to retirement, Jorge primarily worked for Lark Manufacturing as a precision machinist for over 40 years.  He was a longtime communicant of St. Augustine Church.

Jorge was a dedicated father "Papi", grandfather" Abuelo" (nicknamed "Hi-Pa" by his youngest granddaughter), son and brother. He was the best father that anyone could ever ask for. He was not only an excellent provider and protector, but a role model for all his family who looked up to him as what a family man should look like and behave like. He was very happy to help his family in Argentina who has said to him that he is a very loved role model for them all. He made sure family had their needs met both in USA and in Argentina. He contributed to the well-being of his mother, siblings and nephews and nieces abroad. He was a caring and protecting abuelo as well always looking out for his grandkids coming home from school or making sure they were safe in the backyard and babysitting more times than can be counted.

Jorge's had many passions and hobbies. He refurbished a Barracuda after he retired. He enjoyed the warmer weather in Connecticut and always looked forward to the Spring and Summer. He loved being in the outdoors busy with gardening and outdoor projects, and also doing indoor and outdoor projects with his carpentry skills. You could always find Jorge quite busy at most times engaged in some type of home or yard project. There was no project or problem our father could not fix. He felt great pleasure and reward in any home improvement project. His intelligence and creativity and out of the box problem solving and thinking were unmatched.

Jorge was an avid soccer fan and always rooted for Argentina.  He loved watching Maradona play back in the 1980-1990s. He was able to attend World Cup and Copa America games. In Copa America he was able to see Messi play live and yelled and cheered from the stands with his grandchildren and daughter and son-in-law.  He lastly was able to finally see Argentina win the World Cup December 2022. He enjoyed traveling to his country of Argentina and made it to not only Buenos Aires, but also to Ushuaia which was a lifelong dream to achieve. He traveled to Europe with his wife and Brazil with wife and brother. He made many other vacations to Florida and Cape Cod with his wife and daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. He was always ready to have fun in the sun.

Jorge is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Tony Salamone of Hebron and Nancy and Terry Brown of Rocky Hill; six grandchildren:  Ana Luisa, Gabriela, Terrence, Savannah Brown and Michael and Rachel Salamone, his niece Sandra DiCaprio of Vernon and many nieces and nephews back in Argentina: Silvia, Patricia, Alfredo and more. We love you more than words can say and will miss you forever beyond comprehension.
