Obituary

Lois Marie (McCue) Waters of Wethersfield and Westbrook, Connecticut died peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 91. Born in Wethersfield, November 22,1929 to the late Michael and Mary (Manhire) McCue, she lived most of her life in Wethersfield where she graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1947.

Lois initially worked as a bank teller at CBT in Old Wethersfield where she met her future husband, Bud Waters. The pair married in 1953, originally living in Hartford.

Lois was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Oliver D "Bud" Waters. They left Hartford for a home in Wethersfield where they raised their family.

Lois leaves her four children: Mary Louise Gostyla and her husband Alfred "Skip" of West Hartford, Stephen and his wife Christine, Terri Burr and Nancy, all of Clinton; four grandchildren, Rachel and Caroline Waters and Sarah and Emily Burr; two step-grandchildren Tracy Gostyla and her husband Marty Canner and Kim Gostyla and three great grandchildren.

Lois was primarily a stay at home mom, until her children were established in school, college or work.  Lois then rejoined the workforce within the Wethersfield School System, initially as a lunch room aide, then she became Assistant Librarian at the junior high school before retiring in 1996.

Lois was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Corpus Christi Church, and served as President of the Women's Club. She was a lifelong Democrat, supporting the Wethersfield Town Democrats and hosting numerous functions.

Back in the day, Buddy recruited his bride to join his bartending hobby, and the pair spent many years tending to private parties in Hartford area homes and businesses.

Mom's summer home was at Grove Beach Point in Westbrook where she would spend afternoons on the beach seated in the ladies circle, celebrating Christmas on Labor Day Weekend and enjoying time with her family.

Lois was the last of the original McCue's of Wethersfield from 146 Main Street. She has joined her brothers John and his wife Anne, William and his wife Jane and then Madeline, Joseph and his wife June, Thomas and his wife Helen, Richard and his wife Shirley, Robert and his wife Florence, "Sunny" Jim and his wife Dorothy, Donald and his wife Judy and sisters Helen "Nellie" and her husband Frank Adams, Agnes, Dorothy and her husband Ed Cote, then Ed Dwyer, Laura and her husband Bill Stewart and Gladys and her husband Robert Beck as well as many other extended family members.

Lois was a proud Aunt to a great number of nieces and nephews and enjoyed sending Christmas cards to each and every one of them. All of her nieces and nephews will greatly miss their Aunt Lois.

Lois was most fond of Joseph Cote who was raised in the McCue homestead.  He and his wife Jill vacationed with Lois and dined frequently at each other's homes or at her sister Dot's, enjoying many holidays together over the years.

Lois was also predeceased by Bud's mother Anna Waters, his sisters Anne Stevenson and her husband Russell, Ruth Maguire and her husband Herb, June Smith and her husband George and brother Howard "Sam".  Lois enjoyed countless Easter Sundays and Mother's Days with the Waters family, as well as picnics at Gay City. For Lois, marrying Bud was gaining another family.  Lois leaves a number of nieces and nephews with fond memories.

It's an end of an era loosing mom. She was the last of the McCue 16, spanning 117 years; and the last of the Waters family generation.

Lois's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the nurses, doctors, spiritual counselors and staff at Middlesex Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Lois in her final days.  Our family is deeply appreciative of the countless care givers that have looked over Lois while she was a resident at Atria of Rocky Hill, Arden Courts of Farmington and finally at The Atrium of Rocky Hill; many of whom went above and beyond to assist in her daily living.
