Obituary

Beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather, Louis Carl Fehrenbach of South Windsor, formerly of Wethersfield peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the age of 88 with his family by his side. Lou was born on November 22, 1929 in New Haven, CT to the late Ludwig and Helen (Glass) Fehrenbach. Growing up in New Haven, Europe, Hartford and Wethersfield, Lou attended Glastonbury High School with the intent of becoming a farmer. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Missouri during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on August 9, 1953. Where upon he enrolled in the UCONN School of Agriculture as farming was a passion of his. Realizing that farming would not provide for a family, Lou turned to the sheet metal trade in 1959 where he became an active licensed journeyman in Local #40 for thirty-one years. A natural teacher, Lou taught apprentice classes at night at A.I. Prince Technical School for many years. A true renaissance man in his retirement years, Lou enjoyed cultural pursuits, like watercolor painting where he discovered animals were his favorite subject and musical theatre as well as outdoor activities, such as gardening, hiking, skiing, and sailing. He loved sailing on the Thames River out of the Thames River Yacht Club located in New London. He used to say during the races, "We may come in last, but we always have the most fun!" Faithful member for many years in his church community of Corpus Christi in Wethersfield, Lou had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Corpus Christi Men's Club.
Blessed with two loves of his life, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Beaton and second wife, Marilyn Hill. His sister, Helen also predeceased him this April. Surviving Lou are his children, Terry Fehrenbach Wilson, Paul and Susan Fehrenbach, Heidi Fehrenbach, John Fehrenbach, Peter and Monique Hill, Krista Hill and Timothy Hill, grand children, Elissa (Travis) Softic, Stephanie (Matthew) Bieringer and Eric Brown along with his great grandchildren, Flynn Bieringer and Carver Softic. Additionally, he leaves his brothers Paul (Lynn) Fehrenbach of Ludlow, VT and Fred (Shelley) Fehrenbach of Great Neck, NY. As well as a dear cousin, Carol "Sis" Potter of Hamden, CT. He also, leaves numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Recently, Lou stated, "He led a blessed life, having met and married two wonderful women for almost thirty years each, had great memories of his family and had no regrets!" The family would like to especially thank the hospice nurses and staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Masonicare for the wonderful care of our father and kindness they demonstrated to him and our family during his brief stay.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday, July 2nd from 9:30am -10:30am at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield.
