Lucia M.
(Ganci) Allegra
Feb 10, 1932 — Aug 13, 2021
Hartford
Lucia M. (Ganci) Allegra, 89, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday August 13, 2021 with her son by her side. Her wit and personality were second only to her love for her family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Born in Sortino, Sicily, Italy on February 10, 1932, Lucia was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppina (DiMauro) (Ganci) Franzo. She came to the United States when she was 27 years old and lived in Hartford's South End neighborhood most of her life where she met and married the love of her life, the late Salvatore B. Allegra. She was a Communicant of St. Augustine's Church, and she worked for many years at Colt's Manufacturing before opening a high-end custom drapery business. In addition to her beautiful draperies, which were twice featured in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, she was an incredible cook and gardener. But her true passion was being a grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Lucia is survived by her son Marcello Allegra and his wife Carrie (Lennon), and their three children Christopher, Kathryn and Sabrina Allegra, as well as her brother Samuel Franzo and his wife Josephine, her sister Nancy Capasso and her husband Angelo, and her nieces and nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her brother Antonio Ganci.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021, 11:00 am in María Reina De La Paz Parish (St. Lawrence O'Toole Church) 494 New Britain Ave. Hartford, CT 06106. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Visiting hours will be held Saturday the 28th from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Dillon Baxter Funeral Home 1276 Berlin Tpk. Wethersfield.
