Luisa Echevarria, 87, of West Hartford, CT, beloved wife of the late José Mercedes Echevarria passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at St. Mary's Home, West Hartford. Luisa was born in Añasco, PR and was the daughter of the late Segundo and Léonor Crespo Mercado. Luisa was the beloved matriarch of her family. She cooked for her loved ones daily; she connected the families here in Connecticut with the families in Puerto Rico; she provided love, humor and guidance; she remained faithful to her late husband José Mercedes and she kept God closest to her heart. Luisa will be greatly missed and forever remembered, sitting by the window sill playing bingo on her phone with her blanket on her lap.

Luisa is survived by her three sons; David Echevarria and his wife Andrea of West Hartford; Edwin Echevarria and his wife Marlyn Rodriguez of Perth Amboy, NJ; and José Echevarria Jr and his wife Nancy of Hartford. Luisa is also survived by her four grandchildren; Stephanie, José Daniel (JD), Chelsea, and Kristen. She leaves behind a younger sister, Gladys Mercado and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren from the Crespo, Mercado, and Echevarria families. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her older sister Nereida Echevarria.

Funeral service for Luisa will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church/Maria Reina De La Paz Parish, 494 New Britain Avenue, Hartford, CT. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
