Margaret Elizabeth Taylor, 91, of Old Wethersfield, passed away peacefully at home September 29, 2014 after a brief illness. Peg was born in Hartford, CT on December 5, 1922, the daughter of James and Katherine (Garrity) Murray. She grew up in Hartford, and graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1940. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Colt's Firearms in Hartford. It was at Colt's where she met her husband George, on his visits to see his father, an accountant in the department where Peg was employed.
Peg and George were married in September 1945 in West Palm Beach, Florida, shortly before George's discharge from the Army Air Corps. After moving back to Connecticut, they opened several businesses together, including selling antiques, movie and camera equipment from a shop on the Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield. They shared an enthusiasm for motion pictures, and their most rewarding business venture was Taylor Films, a movie rental business, which they ran until their retirement. Peg's love of classic films continued throughout her life.
Peg was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Wethersfield, and a member of the Guild of St. Theresa. She enjoyed traveling, particularly around New England. She became a faithful Red Sox fan later in life, in spite of her family heritage as Yankees fans. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandson, Matthew Jr., who called her "Poppy." Peg was a generous and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cousin, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her brother, James, and her beloved husband of 67 years, George W. Taylor. She is survived by two daughters, Maureen E. McCurda of Wethersfield and Elizabeth P. O'Meara and her husband David of Marlborough, a grandson, Matthew E. McCurda and Brandi Smith, and great-grandson Matthew E. McCurda, Jr.
