Maria Nieves Colon, 77, of Hartford CT, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 25, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.
It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. It did not matter; how sick she was, she was always determined and a fighter, after all she had eight children. When anyone else would have given up, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like. There was no quitting in her and just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her fight. Her passing will mark the end of an era for this generation. However, it's not the end, she just started a whole new chapter in Heaven.
She was known for her witty sense of humor and captivating personality. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She was a mother of eight children. Despite her large family she always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her family and friends.
She is survived by her 2 daughters Maria and Araceli, 6 sons Edwin, Angel, Ivan, Julio, Jose, Johnny, 6 loving daughter in laws, 2 brothers, countless grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.
With deepest sadness we say farewell to our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Due to this problematic time with the current situation affecting our state, unfortunately as much as we wish to share this time with you Services will be private and will not be announced. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages.
