Maria Teresa Rosario Nunez (90), of Hartford, CT, from Cidra, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 2, 2023. The daughter of the late Martin Rosario and Generosa Ortiz, she was the second oldest of nine children. Born on May 1, 1933, in Cidra Puerto Rico, Maria moved to Hartford, CT at age 26 along with her husband Juan Vargas Garcia and two oldest children, Lydia Roldan and Ernesto Rivera. After adjusting to life outside of her beloved Puerto Rico, the couple would welcome three more children: Juan Vargas, jr., Raphael Vargas, and Jennie Zayas (Vargas). Maria also leaves behind the legacy of twenty-three grandchildren and forty-one great grandchildren.

Maria will be deeply missed and remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She always knew how to make us laugh and was often the life of the party. A migrant farmer for thirty-five years, she sacrificed and worked hard so her children would know a better life. Rest in peace among the angels.

Funeral service for Maria Teresa will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave., Hartford, CT. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke., Wethersfield, CT.
