Obituary

Maria Trienis, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt of Hartford, CT passed away on Friday, September 2. Maria was born in Laerma, Rhodes, Greece; the daughter of the late John and Georgia (Antonarakis) Kattousis. With her new husband she immigrated to the United States in 1952, settling in Hartford, CT where they raised their family.

As she assimilated into life in the US, she maintained a strong Greek culture which she shared through her cooking. Maria worked most of her life and made many friends through the years. After her retirement, Maria enjoyed spending her summers back in Rhodes, reconnecting with long-time friends and family.

She was recognized for her generous spirit and huge heart. She was always willing to lend a hand and helped out in whatever way she could.  Sweet, kind and generous were terms most used to describe her.

Maria loved her family and one of her great pleasures was being named "Mother of the Year" by the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. George Cathedral.  Her contributions to the Greek community and especially to her church were innumerable. For years she volunteered time and effort to support the activities of the church. She was one of the women who could always be counted on to help cook, clean and serve the church in any way possible. Underlying this was her deep, abiding faith. Through personal tribulations, good times and bad, her belief in God kept her ever hopeful.

Maria is survived by her children Georgia Feigel and her husband Gene, Antonios Trienis and his wife Michelina, John Trienis and his wife Monica and her granddaughters Christina Garrett and her wife Libby and Alexandra Feigel; great grandchildren Nico and Martha as well as her sisters Stamatia Papantoniou and her husband Antonios and Anastasia Savvakis and many beloved nieces and nephews in Greece and Australia. She was predeceased by her husband Chrisostomos; daughter Despina Trienis-Wulff and siblings Despina Giakoumakis, Emmanuel Kattousis and twin Sevasti Hatzisavvas.
