Obituary

Mary Cladas Bassos Murray, 96, of Farmington, beloved widow of Paul E. Bassos and Leroy Murray, died, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late George and Irene (Parandes) Cladas and lived in Farmington for over 35 years. After the death of her husband Paul, and with just a high school education, Mary rose to become one of the first female officers of The Society for Savings. Education was a priority in her life and she worked hard to be sure each of her children graduated from college. Mary was a strong and proud Greek woman and she instilled these virtues not only in her 3 children but also her grandchildren. She was truly cherished. She was a longtime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral as well as a church bookkeeper for many years. She was a member and former officer of The Daughters of Penelope Chapter 198, where she served as Governor and was twice voted Daughter of the Year. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Beauchamp and her husband Michael of Avon, her son Charles Bassos and his wife Marilyn of Florida, seven grandchildren, Kim, Laura, Wendy, Josh, Robyn, Jaime and Kristen, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son George Bassos, two brothers and five sisters. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Gables at Farmington for all of their love, support and friendship for the past five years. She loved it there. The funeral will be Friday, June 1, 2012, 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave. Hartford with the Rev. George Zugravu, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
