STARON, Mary (Pikula)
Mary (Pikula) Staron, 94, of Wethersfield, devoted wife and mother, peacefully passed into the hands of the Lord Monday (August 30, 2010) after a long and fruitful life. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Albert Pikula and Agnes (Wraga) Pikula, Mary resided in Wethersfield most of her life. As a young girl, Mary was dedicated to her father and brothers, bearing the responsibility of their care after her mother's passing. She married her husband, the late Peter C. Staron in 1937 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. A dedicated mother with a spirited social life, she began her working career at Carbone's restaurant where she waitressed for many years, followed by the Internal Revenue Service and finally at the State Labor Department for more than 20 years before retiring to care for her grandchildren. Family and faith defined Mary's life. Mary was a devout Catholic, a communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, a Third Order Carmelite and an ardent supporter of the Cenacle Retreat House in Middletown. She inspired everyday with her kindness and sincere commitment to sacrificing for others, whether family, church, or those in need. She will always be remembered for her many, far reaching friends, her talkative (loquacious) personality, inherent generosity and for her family guidance. She will be dearly missed. She leaves her three children, Carol Modugno of South Windsor, Peter Staron and his wife Penny of Wethersfield, and Mary Beth Staron of Rocky Hill. She also leaves her grandchildren, Vicki Brodeur, Betsy Hale and her husband Howard, and Amy Vignone all of South Windsor, James Mowel of Newington, Matt Staron and Carmeron Staron of Wethersfield, Allison Romano of Manhattan, John Romano of New Jersey; five great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Stanley, John and Joseph Pikula. We would like to express our sincere appreciation and extend our heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary care she received at the Monsignor Bojnowski Manor.
