Mary (Leonardos) Ttofi, 94, our beloved mother and wife of the late Stavros "Steve" Ttofi, passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Her son and daughter were at her side. She had a more than 13-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mary was born in Norwich, CT on December 25, 1921 to the late Amersuda "Marcia" (Veloutsos) Leonardos and Peter Leonardos (Linos). She married the love of her life, Stavros Ttofi, on October 26, 1952 and lived in Newington for 52 years. Mom left high school one year before graduation to help support her family. She worked for the Royal Typewriter Company and retired from the former Tie Shop at the Westfarms Mall. Mom was devoted to her family and always placed their needs above her own. She enjoyed vacation trips with us to Canada, Virginia, Florida, and more. Mom was an excellent and very creative cook and baker. We will always remember her homemade tomato sauce which both her kids try to reproduce with some success. Her Greek Easter bread and happy birthday cupcakes were delicious treats. She loved Greek music and dancing. Mary had volunteered at the former Newington Children's Hospital. Mom regularly went to the town library with dad to pick up the latest book from Danielle Steel or Mary Higgins Clark. We will never forget her beautiful smile. The cruel disease eventually stole her physical smile but couldn't take her inner spiritual smile. Until the end mom was able to kiss us hello or goodbye on the cheek. She's reunited with Steve who died on November 27, 2015. She leaves her son and primary caregiver throughout the course of her disease, Dr. Christopher Ttofi, of Newington and his girlfriend, Maria Laureano, of Manchester, and her daughter Elaine Goulas and her husband, George, of Oxford, MA. She was predeceased by her sisters Victoria Constantine and Irene Mack. Mary was a longtime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain. When God created mothers, he probably had someone like Mary in mind. Mom will be greatly missed. Until we meet again. A sincere thanks to her nurses including Kara , Angela, Victoria, and Edith and to Laurie and Susan from earlier in her stay and to the CNAs who gave her excellent care, especially Iris, Daisy, Denise, Laraine, Sheila, Vida, and Kathy and to Beata, Evelyn, KerriAnn, Violet, Martha, Kasia, Maria, and Cierra from earlier in her stay. A double thanks to Estefany who took care of mom first as a CNA and later as a nurse. A very big thank you to Juliet, the unit manager, who oversaw Mary's care for eight years. There are no calling hours. Funeral and burial are private. Donations in Mary's name may be made to: Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
