Obituary

Mildred 'Milly' Frances (Goldsmith) Egan, 94, died on October 20, 2018 after a brief illness.  She was born in Lawrence, MA on September 13, 1924 to John H. and Elsa A. (Lundgren) Goldsmith.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 37 years, James F. Egan, Sr., who passed away in 1983.

Milly was raised in Newburyport, MA and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1942.  She moved to Hartford in 1946 after her marriage to Jim and resided there until her passing.  She held various secretarial positions during her lifetime, including working at Aetna, and was church secretary for 56 years at Broadview Community Church in Hartford, in addition to being a longtime member of the church, working until she was 92.

Milly is survived by her son, James F. Egan, Jr., her daughter Susan E. Kelley and her husband Jim, all of Hartford; her grandson, Michael Kelley and his fiancé, Chelsea of Broken Arrow, OK; her granddaughter, Jenn Kelley of Austin, TX and her great-granddaughter, Ainsley Rea Kelley, also of OK.   She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews, their children and their grandchildren, all of whom were very special to her;  sisters-in-law, Mary O'Keefe  Goldsmith of Newburyport, MA and Maureen Egan Northern and husband, Cliff, of Falmouth, MA.

She will be dearly missed by her many friends from Broadview and Avery Heights, where she resided for 29 years. Milly was an incredible example of living as a woman of faith.  She was a very special lady who touched many lives with her kindness and loyalty.  Her ability to keep track of and send birthday cards to family and friends was legendary.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Avery Heights – Noble and Station 3 for their loving care of Milly during her time there.  Your kindness and concern for us, as well as your care for Milly, will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  Burial will immediately follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.  The family will receive friends and family at 10:00 AM, prior to the service.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Avery Heights Auxiliary, c/o Avery Heights, 705 New Britain Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106.  Please visit www.dillonbaxter.com to share a memory with the family.
