Peter G. Kokinis, 90, of Wethersfield, CT, beloved husband of Priscilla (Galetsa) Kokinis, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026. Peter was born in Hartford, CT and was the son of the late George J. and Papadoula (Kopteros) Kokinis.
Peter attended Bulkley High School where he was a three-sport captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He went on to excel in athletics at Springfield College and graduated in 1959 with a BA in Physical Education. Peter returned to his high school alma mater where he began his teaching career in 1961. He became the head football and baseball coach in 1963 and led his teams to five City Championships in football and fifteen consecutive City Championships in baseball. He completed his career as the Athletic Director at Wethersfield High School from '87-'97, and was elected into the Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012.
Peter believed strongly in the development of student athletes, and he dedicated his life to the pursuit of making an impact on the youth of Hartford and the surrounding communities. He was the Director/President of the Jaycee Courant Baseball League, which was later renamed the Peter Kokinis Baseball League for more than 20 years. Because of his unselfish dedication throughout his teaching and coaching career, Peter was honored with Official Proclamations from the State of Connecticut in '90, '91, and on October 9, 2016 when the Connecticut General Assembly officially proclaimed the date as Peter Kokinis Day in Connecticut. Always willing to help and never looking for credit. Husband, father, teacher, coach, and friend, he will truly be missed.
Peter is survived by his wife Priscilla, brothers John Kokinis and George Kokinis. He is also survived by his daughter Maria (Kokinis Tougas), her husband Jeffrey, his son George (Kokinis) and his wife Elizabeth and his six (6) grandchildren whom he adored; Alexander, Kristina, Marissa, Amanda, Peter, Ella, and his two Great Grandchildren, Ariana (Rinaldi) and Oliver (Tougas).
Funeral services for Peter will be private. There are no calling hours. A Special Memorial Celebration of Peter's life will be held on December 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford, CT.
