Roberto Gil, 84 of West Hartford, beloved husband of Silvia (Prieto) Gil, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Havana, Cuba, son of the late Fabian and Blanca (Martinez) Gil.

Roberto and Silvia came to the US in 1968 and eventually settled in West Hartford in 1976. Roberto owned his own business in frozen foods before his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed many hobbies during his retirement. His most cherished past time was playing the piano. He taught himself to play and would spend hours at his piano daily. He was an amateur photographer who loved to photograph birds, flowers and his family.

Besides his wife, Roberto is survived by his 2 daughters; Miriam Rodriguez and her husband Juan of Windsor, and Ileana Utke and her husband Shawn of Holliston, MA. He also leaves his 3 grandchildren; Alex Rodriguez and his wife Diana of West Hartford, and Isabella and Evan Utke, both of Holliston, MA. His brother-in-law Jesus Prieto and his wife Sandra of Newington. His niece Loraine Prieto of Newington and nephew Marco Prieto of Parkland, FL and his 2 cousins Ela Cabrera and Isabel Hernandez, both of Miami, FL. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a cousin Hilda Osorio. He also leaves behind many beloved friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021, 11:00 AM at Maria Reina De La Paz Parish/St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave. Hartford, CT 06106. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday before the mass, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, at the Dillon Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke.
