Obituary

Rosalia "Ita" Lopez was granted her angel wings on May 13th 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched throughout her very memorable life. Rosalia was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on September 4, 1940 to Carmelo and Jovina Otero Lopez and migrated to Hartford, Ct in the Fall of 1961. Rosalia ran an accredited in home child-care center for many years, and eventually became a Certified Foster Care provider tending to the needs of many foster children over the years. Her interests included family, reading, watching television and speaking with her niece Catalina "Tata" daily. In fact, she devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to many family members, including her younger brother Antonio. Over the years, Rosalia became the symbolic pillar of the Lopez family and her local community. She filled this role with great passion and enthusiasm. Although she gave birth to five children, many considered her to be their mother figure. Rosalia would never deny a plate to a hungry mouth, or turn away someone in need. Many of her nieces, nephews, foster children and a host of others consider her passing to be the loss of a parent. Rosalia is survived by_a sister, Carmen Santana, brother Antonio Rodriguez and her loving children, Pablo, Luz "Maria", Hector "Cholo", 'Leticia "Letty", and Carlos as well as their spouses. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a myriad of children that affectionately refer to her as "Ita". She was preceded in death by her sisters Ana Rios and Porfiria Lopez-Gonzalez and brothers Jose Lopez and Raphael Rodriguez and a niece Alicia Rodriguez. The funeral will be Friday, May 18, 2012, 11 a.m. at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.
