Obituary

Salvatore Pistritto peacefully passed away on August 13, 2013 at his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife Ann at his bedside. He ultimately succumbed to a seven year battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Pittsburgh by way of West Hartford, Connecticut; his daughter, Lynne Sherry, and son-in-law, Mike, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his son, Christopher Pistritto, and daughter-in-law, Lisa, of Arlington, Virginia.

Sal was the son of Maria Pistritto of Hartford, Connecticut and the late Antonio Pistritto. He is survived by sister Josephine Fortuna and her husband Enzo of Hartford. He is also survived by three nephews, Frank and Anthony Fortuna and Matthew Zawislinski. He was predeceased by his brother, Carmelo Pistritto and a special brother-in-law, Bill Zawislinski.

Sal emigrated from Floridia, Sicily, Italy to the United States in 1958. He set about four important life goals: 1) advance his education, 2) marry a beautiful woman, 3) raise a proud family, and 4) ensure that his lawn was more aesthetically pleasing when compared to his neighbors. It is clearly evident that Sal achieved success in all categories, realizing the American Dream.

Sal graduated from Quinnipiac University with a degree in medical technology and earned a Masters degree in health care administration from Rensselar Polytechnic Institute. He retired from Clinical Lab Partners as a supervisor. He took great pride in his work and loved his colleagues.

Sal was a man of many accomplishments. He committed to memory the location of every travel soccer field and ice hockey rink in Connecticut; rode his bicycle from Virginia to Oregon in his early 20s; and witnessed both of his children graduate from college and get married. His crowning achievement, however, is his two year old granddaughter Maeve Sherry, whose sparkling personality always brought a smile to Sal's face.

Sal had a passion for life. He enjoyed a smooth Chianti, mounting a Christmas Tree, as well as family summer vacations to Cape Cod & The Islands. He was also a fan of the arts and loved traveling by train to New York City with his children to visit museums and walk through Central Park.

Sal's devotion to his family is perhaps only matched by his love of sports. He was an ardent and unwavering supporter of the New York Yankees, New York Football Giants, and University of Connecticut Basketball. He enjoyed cheering for the UConn Men's Basketball team as a season ticket holder alongside his good friends.

Sal was a caring and compassionate man who will be remembered for his generosity and ability to see the good in people.

Ann and Sal would like to express their appreciation to Forbes Hospice for support and care throughout a very difficult time in their lives. They would especially like to thank Sarah and Jonathan. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Forbes Hospice, 4800 Friendship Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
