Obituary

Stella (Socrates) Manousos, 84, of Wethersfield, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015. She was born in Rhodes, Greece, daughter of the late Stylianos and Irene (Hantzikostantis) Socrates. She immigrated with her family to the United States in 1947. In 1951, her husband-to-be Stavros Manousos also immigrated to Hartford to marry Stella. Together, they raised three children. Stella was a devoted wife, mother, and Yiayia (grandmother), always there for her family with support and encouragement. She enjoyed being a doting Yiayia, attending dance recitals and being unofficial sideline coach and cheerleader at her sons' and grandchildren's soccer, basketball and football games over the past 45 years. When she wasn't on the sidelines, you could be sure to find her in the kitchen preparing her favorite Greek dishes for her family and friends. Stella was a Wethersfield resident for over 60 years and was an active member of the Hartford St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral including the Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, Cretan Society, and Pan Rhodian Society.
Besides her husband Stavros of 64 years, she is survived by her children; Phyllis and her husband Michael Zerbini of Wethersfield; Stylianos Manousos and Brenda Laasri of Florida; and Stathis and his wife Lisa Manousos of Wethersfield; seven grandchildren: Christina and her husband Todd Francis, Rena and Steven Zerbini, Morgan and Nick Manousos, and Christopher and Michael Manousos; and a great-grandson, Gavin Francis. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Steven Socrates of Michigan, and many loving nephews, nieces and cousins in the US and Rhodes, Greece.
