Obituary

Born May 15, 1916 -- Reunited with his wife Gertrude (Menard) on Thursday, November 8 during a perfectly created early N'oreaster ! The setting nor how the outcome progressed could not have been scripted any better. At the age of 96 - Wentworth had much to reflect upon and there were absolutely no regrets. He was described as salt-of-the-earth; by his appreciation for the very simplest of pleasures life had to offer. A great person; son, husband, father and role model. Never taking one moment for granted and always offering a warm, shy smile . His hard work and earnest lifestyle was shared and enjoyed; surrounded by all he cared about -- in the little cottage dubbed; HEART's EASE ~ Wentworth was born in Orrington, Maine; a quaint mill town ; savoring the best lobster and salmon anyone could hope for. As a young man, he always found great pleasure in his family Homestead and Mill as well as many hours of woodcarving ~ rendering carved birds, peach stone baskets and intricate wall plaques for his own enjoyment. An adventure to Florida -after the depression - in a rumble seat of a Model A Ford produced many great stories as well as the fate of his return North. He ended up with a stop in Meriden, CT where he met, courted and married Gertrude - his beloved wife of 67 years. They lived in Hartford, CT for years and eventually purchased a "little fixer upper" colonial in Manchester, CT. Shortly thereafter; they welcomed Gail Suzanne into their lives. Always cherished and the center of their universe. Despite the huge family; thanks to the Menard Clan ~ Gail never felt like an only child. Wentworth worked at Pratt and Whitney in Production Test for 37 years. He chose to take an early retirement offered at the time. Although his retirement was far from that. He kept busy with his home projects and 30-year house plan; woodworking, gardens and golf. As a Senior, he loved to play more golf and be part of the Manchester Senior Center Greenhouse. All this still left plenty of time for his abundant help to those in need; family and friends. Wentworth and Gertrude enjoyed their past 11 years living in their little cottage near Gail and her family. Being part of everyday life and nearby. Many enjoyable hours in the yard and gardens as well as road trips with Doug and numerous baseball outings for grandson Jack. On many occasions, Jenna has been helpful and compassion; caring for Papa. It was always our hope to maintain a loving family community of care for Papa. The past several years were filled with a routine that always included a lunch at Mitchell's, sharing time as Gail's copilot during errands and numerous chocolate milkshakes and coffees down by the river. Wentworth was predeceased by his Parents; Edward and Elizabeth (Wentworth) Johnson, a brother Everett, a sister Marjorie and beloved Granddog Buddy. He leaves behind to cherish all the fond memories, Gail Suzanne and husband Douglas Grant - always like a son to him. Wentworth and Gertrude always felt so blessed to enjoy so many years with their cherished grandchildren; Jenna Elizabeth - now almost 21 and James "Jack" Douglas - 18. There are also so many fond nieces and nephews that have been touched by Uncle Wenty's or Uncle John's long lifetime of love.
The family wishes to thank all caring friends who got to spend time with Wentworth over the years. Gail - so appreciated the compassionate care and support of VITAS; especially Reagan and Gloria.
