Zoë Valkanos, 58, died on Saturday, May 9, 2015, after a long battle with Leukemia. Zoë was born on March 1, 1957, in Hartford, CT. She resided in Connecticut, but for 10 years of her life she worked and lived in Athens and Skiathos, Greece. Zoë loved to travel back and forth to Greece to visit with family and friends. She worked hard her whole life, but liked to lay back, be creative, and teach herself new skills. Zoë made jewelry, painted and drew, and taught herself foreign languages. She loved reading stories about empowered women and constantly challenged herself and those around her with riddles and games. Her creative and fun-loving spirit was infectious. Zoë is survived by her husband, Vasilios Valkanos; her father and mother, James and Angeliki Salonikios; her brother and sister-in-law Stamos and Noreen Salonikios; her nieces and nephew, and extended family in Greece. Services will be held at 12:30PM Thursday, May 14, at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford, CT. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Zoë was a kind and beautiful person inside and out. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
